Now that it’s my second year since being diagnosed with T1D, I finally feel comfortable enough to try the pump. My doctor recommended it to me last year, but at the time, I didn’t feel ready. Being a junior with all the college prep work, and living alone in a dorm, made me uncomfortable about starting something new like that. So I told my doctor I’d try it in the last few months of my senior year instead.

Now I actually feel ready. I can count my carbs pretty well. I’d say I’ve pretty much mastered it so that part’s under control. And honestly, it’s been tiring to always carry a bag everywhere I go, even for short trips, just to bring my insulin pen and everything I need. Seeing how much technology has advanced even in such a short time, and how so many more people have switched to the tubeless Omnipod gave me the final push.

My next appointment is in a few months, and I’ll talk to my doctor about it then. Maybe I am now ready to try the pump.

Injecting insulin in my dorm room, something I do at least four times each day.
