T1D on the Runway

One of the hardest parts about living with T1D is that it’s a disease where your body stops producing insulin completely, meaning you have to take insulin injections and manage your blood sugar for the rest of your life. It can appear suddenly, without any warning signs, yet most people either don’t know about it at all or have only heard the name once or twice.
So when it suddenly happens to you, before you can even say “I have this disease,” you first have to start from, “Wait, what even is this?” And because there’s no way to prevent or cure it, raising awareness about T1D becomes so important. People need to know what it is, so that if it ever happens to them or someone they know, they can at least recognize it and begin to accept it.
So, to get to the point, when I saw that Lila Moss had walked the runway wearing her insulin pump, I couldn’t help but feel so happy. She didn’t hide it, and seeing someone with that much influence proudly show her device makes me feel so grateful.
Going through the comments, I realized I wasn’t the only one who felt that way. Here are some of the comments from the comment section.
@dh0702 You are such an amazing T1D human being @lilamoss . My son is type 1 and for him to see you with your OmniPod on show is such a great example 🧡
@cristinasvec_dietitian Thank you for showing your Omnipod! You are a great role model to all those kids who are living with T1DM and who might be embarrassed of their little device. This way they can learn they can still be gorgeous and have a great career despite living with a chronic illness. Your courage is remarkable! Thank you!, Lila!
@diabestisar Love that you show your pump, so important! You’re not just great a model but also a fantastic role model for all the t1d-girls other there like my daughter 💙🙂
